"Before the Dance"
by Ken "Rainbow Cougar" Edwards

(verse is on inside left, right side is blank)

Pow-wows bring together people from many tribes to exchange news, meet good friends and remember the old ways. This young girl is ready to enter the dance area. She wears a Wing dress which is made of material rather than a Traditional dress made of either deer or elk skin. Her beaded purse is decorated with the design of the Wild Red Rose and her dance shawl is draped over her arm. Her braids are wrapped with beaver fur. The fan she holds is made of eagle feathers.
